Over the past few years Rocking G Lofts has become home to some of the most premier breeders and bloodlines in the sport.

ABOUT US

ZACH and KATE GARFIELD with children HAYDEN and MAC

Rocking G Lofts is owned and operated by Bud, LaRee, Zach, and Kate Garfield and their children. Located in Cedar City, Utah in the "gateway" to some of the most beautiful country on earth and is the hub to many National Parks including Zion and Bryce Canyon.

HISTORY
The Rocking G brand dates back to the early 1970s when the Garfields owned and operated a small farm/ranch operation where they raised purebred Suffolk and Columbia sheep and later went on to raise Registered Quarter Horses.

Bud has always had a love for all types of animals and shared that love with his children. The children were all raised on the farm but in 1993 property values skyrocketed and it became less feasible to raise livestock and grow crops and with the children growing up and moving out of the house, the farm was sold.

Bud and LaRee moved to town and bought a little lot just outside of town where they are able to have a few animals and since Bud retired a few years ago, it has given him the perfect retreat to relax and do the things he loves.

In the summer of 2002, Bud and one of his neighbors were having a conversation and the topic turned to racing pigeons. It seems this friend had flown birds with a club out of Beaver Utah (50 miles to the North) but he had gotten so busy that he had to get out of the sport. He had given his birds to a fellow flyer and there was this little blue check hen that just wouldn't settle to the new loft and kept flying home. After taking the hen to the new home a couple times just to have her show back up at the old loft, he decided to keep her and see if he could find someone who might want her that would keep her in the loft.

Well, it was more than Bud could resist and he offered to take her so he picked her up and temporarily put her in the chicken coop with a few laying hens he had at the time.

The intention was for Bud to just have a little flock of birds to watch fly around the loft and with the family being completely clueless of the way to find a mate for her but with a Tyler being pretty savvy to the internet, they went on a hunt to find a mate for the hen. It was quite a day when the online pigeon auctions were discovered and a mate for the little hen was soon found and bought for $75.00. Well, honestly the family thought Bud had lost his mind paying $75.00 for a bird! When the seller of the bird was contacted, he told Bud that it was as cheap to mail two birds as one so another nice cockbird was bought for another $75.00. ($75.00 birds, now those were the days!) Now the search went out for another hen to go with the other bird and the story continues

Just like the days on the farm, Bud has shared his interests with his family and it didnt take long for his two sons Zach and Tyler to get a huge interest in the birds, and as much as Bud was going to be happy just having a small flock of birds to enjoy flying around the loft, Zach and Tyler were more interested in the competitive aspect of the sport.

Over the past couple years the Rocking G Loft has gone from a loft where "just pigeons" are housed to home of some of the most premier breeders and bloodlines in the sport.

LOCAL RPC
We are blessed to be a part of a club that is made up of some honest, great flyers with some unbelievable birds, some of which have been graciously passed along to us. We, like many people getting into the sport spent a ton of unnecessary money in finding what works and what doesn't. We would highly recommend that a beginner seek birds from local flyers for your foundation rather than piecing a loft full of "spare parts" together at great expense. Your local birds are proven to your area and we believe one can accelerate the process of competitiveness if you accept gifts from fellow club members.

NEW FAMILY OF BIRDS
There are not too many of the original birds that were bought still left in the loft. Due to heavy culling and becoming better educated on quality, we have transformed the breeding program and we now have basically two families of birds. We are the proud owners of one of the most sought after family of HVR's. We have been very lucky to have become friends with Ray and Ryan Jones of Sandy Utah. The Jones Boys HVR's have won some of the biggest One Loft compititions in the US. We have several of their top older breeders in our loft as well as several other breeders direct from them which are down from there foundation pigeons. Our other main line is what we call our "Hit Pair" line. Many of our top breeders are direct children of our "Hit Pair". This pair continues each year breeding us top flying birds in the One Loft and club settings. Not only have they done well for us but are now doing well for several other lofts throughout the US.

We have entered a few futurities over the past couple years and plan on entering a few select races every year. We will also be selling individuals and young bird kits and would invite anyone who wants quality birds that are from proven families of winners and breeders to contact us as we hope to be able to join with folks around the pigeon racing world in providing quality birds to share in making the greatest sport in the world, better!

Just like the days on the farm, we strive to breed the best with the intent of making everything carrying the Rocking G name a Champion!

Mac, Rocking G's Loft Manager, holds a future winner. He's dad's best hand when it comes to picking birds that will win races
